Día de Los Muertos Community Altar

As a space dedicated to preserving histories, we want to honor the stories that have passed through our SALON walls with a community altar dedicated to Dia de los Muertos. We invite clients, neighbors, and community members to bring flowers, candles, or plants as an ofrenda for your ancestors.

Altars have always been an element in SALON and as hairdressers, our relationships with you often align with moments that mark the passage of time, we are there for beginnings, endings, and a lot of the in between. Knowing you, knowing your loved ones through you, and holding your stories and theirs in our space is something we cherish deeply. We grieve, celebrate, honor, and remember with you. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Focusing on plant offerings only as our intention for the altar is to return the offerings back to the earth. In partnership with El Puente’s artists we will bring all the offerings to their community garden compost collection.

All flowers are native to Mexico and locally sourced from Luna Family Farm (@lunafamilyfarm). The arch is made by Rosie (@116xicana), using branches from her neighborhood, including native flowers named Cempasúchil, Celosia, and Moca de Pavo.
