Blowdry Basics
with Kristen and Rubi

Jan. 27 | 5p - 7pm
SALON | 224 Roebling St

Sliding Scale: $75 - $125

We’re excited to announce an ongoing education series focusing on expanding, refreshing, and growing our skills as hair stylists. Join us every fourth Monday of the month, for demos and conversations with stylists from our community.

We’re kicking off with a blowout workshop that is open to hair stylists and non-hairstylists on Monday, Jan. 27th from 5-7pm. Come over and learn some skills to up your at-home blowout or in-salon styling. Taught by Rubi and Kristen (shout out to chinatown salon days!), who will walk us through their signature blowouts. This is a demo and conversation (look and learn), no prior skills or tools required.

Rubi is known for her brushless styling. Using her hands, minimal product, and a blowdryer, she accentuates your natural texture and guides it creating defined waves that look like a lived in curling iron finish.

Kristen is known for her signature blowout techniques that leave your hair feeling soft, smooth and perfectly imperfect. She manipulates hair with a round brush like nobody we've ever seen, we take any chance we can to watch her work her magic.

A note on pricing: (Salon)PRACTICE aims for pricing accessibility by establishing a learning network of artists that value sharing knowledge with each other through sliding scale prices. Thank you for supporting our community.

About SALON:
Salon facilitates human connections centered around hair. Founded by Rubi Aguilar Jones in 2018, with the firm belief that Salons are community spaces and hairdressers are vital caregivers in their respective communities.

Recognizing the significance hairstylists have as the common connector in the diverse web of the clients they see, we cultivate real, in-person discussions, learning, and collaborations around hair through our core values of CARE, STUDY, and PRACTICE.

(SALON)Study - An active research center focused on the intersections of hair with culture, science, and art through a public library and studio space.

(SALON)Practice: A community center and incubator where we come together to practice, play, experiment, and share. We work on assuring a more equitable and sustainable future for beauty workers of all backgrounds and at every stage of their career.

About Rubi:
Rubi Aguilar Jones is a NY-based hairdresser represented by Julian Watson Agency. Find her hair styling work here

She runs Salon, a creative studio centered around the intersection of hair and culture.

About Kristen:
Kristen has been cutting and styling hair for over 10 years, but if you ask her she’d say it’s been her whole life. A New Jersey native, she quickly discovered her favorite place was the salon. When she wasn’t getting blowouts as a kid, she would beg her friends to let her do their hair….until eventually they started begging her!

After training under some of the top stylists, Kristen has honed in on her cutting skills, specializing in razor cuts- but well versed in classic cutting, men’s cuts, and hair that lives well. Kristen is inspired by effortless hair and educates her clients with her personal ethos that less is always more. Kristens haircuts are low maintenance and cut to last. Kristens keen eye for detail allows her to create a custom cut for each client that reflects their lifestyle, personal style and elevates their natural texture. Kristens honest approach to each client is what makes her stand out at Bassia Bassia in the East Village.
