Miwako is exploring her roots, her home, and culture, through the medium of hair.
Her latest sculpture Shimenawa takes us back to her mothers home town, where a sacred rope used in Shinto marks the boundary between the divine and the earthly realms. For many, passing underneath shimenawa feels as if past burdens have been cleansed. Miwako’s shimenawa sculpture invites us to linger in the threshold and linger in the liminal space created, before intentionally entering the new.
Join us for organic Japanese tea provided by our friends and neighbors HACO, a multi-dimensional community space located at 31 Grand Street.
We look forward to seeing you.
