About SALON:
Salon facilitates human connections centered around hair. Founded by Rubi Aguilar Jones in 2018, with the firm belief that Salons are community spaces and hairdressers are vital caregivers in their respective communities.
Recognizing the significance hairstylists have as the common connector in the diverse web of the clients they see, we cultivate real, in-person discussions, learning, and collaborations around hair through our core values of CARE, STUDY, and PRACTICE.
(Salon)STUDY - An active research center focused on the intersections of hair with culture, science, and art through a public library and studio space.
We acknowledge that the beauty industry we know today is a reflection of a history that has erased and/or historically not promoted contributions by women, BIPOC, and the LGBTQ+ community. We want to put these stories at the forefront, alongside scientific and cultural research that educates (outside the lens of a major product brand).
(Salon)PRACTICE: A community center and incubator where we come together to practice, play, experiment, and share. We work on assuring a more equitable and sustainable future for beauty workers of all backgrounds and at every stage of their career.
